COVID-19: Changes to Library Services

The Library is open! The Library Team is ready and available to support students, faculty, and staff in teaching, learning, research, and scholarship, both in-person and virtually.

In-person services are available to currently registered students, faculty, and staff, alumni, and visitors.

For information on our hours for the Summer term, please visit our Hours page. Please note that hours and services are subject to change.

The health and safety of our campus community is our top priority. To visit the library, you must:

  1. Comply with Brescia's  vaccination policy.
  2. Complete the daily COVID-19 self-assessment and be approved to come to campus.
  3. Wear an ASTM Level 3 medical grade mask at all times, as per Brescia policy. If you need a medical grade mask, ask at the Library Service Desk.

Summer 2022 Services

Ensuring a Safe Campus

Hand sanitizer is available throughout the library. Cleaning wipes are also available.

Need a mask? The Library has ASTM level-3 disposable medical grade masks available at the service desk.

Individuals that do not comply with library health & safety protocols will be asked to leave the building.

Food and Drink

Food is not permitted in the library. Lidded beverages are allowed, with mask removal only allowed when actively drinking. 

Study Rooms

Two group study rooms are available for booking.

Browsing the Collection

Our physical collection is available for browsing during our open hours.

All library users may continue to request items for pickup through Omni. You will receive an email when your item is ready for pickup.

Digital Delivery services also continue! Faculty, students, and staff can request portions of eligible physical library materials to be delivered in PDF format by email as allowable under the Canadian Copyright Act and fair dealing guidelines.

With Digital Delivery, you can access a variety of materials such as book chapters, journal articles, government documents, reference works, and more. Your digital copy will be accessible for 30 days and you can open it 10 times, print, or save it to your computer. 

How to Request Digital Delivery:

To request digitized material, such as journal articles or book chapters, locate the item in Omni and click the “Digitization” link. You will need to sign in with your Western ID.

You will receive an email with instructions for accessing your digitized material when it is ready.

Printing, Copying, and Scanning

Printing, photocopying, and scanning services are available. Please visit our Print Copy Scan page for more information.

Returning Materials

Please return library materials to one of our drop-bins, located just inside the entrance to the library, or in the Mother St. James library vestibule. 

Visitor and Guest Access

We are pleased to welcome alumni, visitors, and guests back into the library.

You may also continue to request books through Omni for pickup at the service desk. If you request a book through Omni, please come to campus once you have received an email notifying you your item is ready for pickup.

Research Support

Research Help

Librarians are available for one-on-one support. We can help with topics such as finding academic sources, search strategies, evaluating information, citation, and more! We can also help with virtual technologies, such as OWL or Office 365. Reach a Librarian by:

  • Emailing beryliveylibrary@uwo.ca
  • Filling in our Book a Librarian form to make an appointment. We can meet with you virtually by Zoom or phone.
  • Phoning 519-432-8353 x28250.
  • Stop by the Service Desk during our open hours.

For general questions, you are welcome to use our Call-back form. We will respond as soon as we are able, and at least within one business day by your choice of phone or email.

Online Research Resources

There are many online resources available to help you in completing your coursework and research:

  • Omni is our academic search tool. Use it to search for journal articles, e-books, streaming video, and more
  • Databases are very helpful for finding subject-specific journal articles
  • Research Guides can help you to get started in your research. We have a research guide for each program at Brescia
  • Citation Guides for all common styles used in Brescia courses
  • Our Clever Researcher Blog has many research tips and tricks, such as how to develop keywords, Boolean searching, and more!

Course Support

Course Readings

If there are readings you would like to make available for your students, the Library can add physical and electronic reserve materials through the Course Readings program. Please submit your requests via the Ares, our Course Readings software, or email beryliveylibrary@uwo.ca.

Physical course reserves will be offered again for the 2021-2022 academic year
