This year we are offering pre-booked in-person and virtual appointments on a first-come, first-serve basis. You may book one appointment (25 min or 50 min) at a time (online) and twice per assignment. This is to ensure fairness and accessibility. 

No, we can help at any stage of the process! We can talk about writing in general (for example, what is the expected structure of a university essay? Does a book review need a “thesis”?), help you brainstorm ideas (let’s talk about the clearest way to structure your ideas/argument) or look at a completed draft (from a rough draft to a polished piece of work).

Although reading from a hard copy is preferable, we can assist you by reviewing your work on a laptop.

Absolutely! We will not edit or “correct” your grammar, but we are happy to discuss issues if and when they arise in your writing. We can highlight areas, for example, where a semi-colon is used incorrectly, and discuss how and when a semi-colon is used correctly. For more information visit our resources page. There are many links to sites that provide excellent material on specific structural and/or grammar issues.

All of our tutors are passionate and capable in helping you with your writing, so please choose a tutor based on availability. Our focus is on clarity in writing. We are not “content experts.” We are happy to assist with clarity in writing, but we ask that you consult your professor(s)/TAs regarding any content specific questions.

Jessica Veitch - Tuesday 1:30pm-3:30pm [English]: Hello! My name is Jessica and I am a fourth-year Family Studies and Psychology student at Brescia. I am hoping to do a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy next year. Beatrice Reinhardt - Wednesday 11:00am-1:00pm [English and/or French]: Hello, my name is Beatrice! I am a fourth-year student at Brescia majoring in French for Teaching and English Language and Literature. I am an avid granny crafter, tea enthusiast and bookworm. Christina Butchart - Wednesday 1:30pm-3:30pm [English and/or French]: Hi, my name is Christina! I am in my third year completing a double-major in French for Teaching and History. I like to travel, be active, read, and watch "The Office" during my free time. Nikki Lobban - Thursday  9:00am-11:00am [English and/or French]: Hey! I’m Nikki and I’m a fourth-year student at Brescia completing an Honours Specialization in French Studies and a minor in Political Science. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, travelling, dancing, and playing with my golden retriever. I am really looking forward to tutoring at the Writing Centre this year and I hope to see you there!

Joanne Grafton - Friday 9:00am-11:00am Online Only [English]: Hi everyone, I’m Joanne! I am a 2019 Brescia alumna with a double major in English and History. A year later I completed my MA in History at Laurier, and now I’m back at Western in my second year of teacher’s college at Althouse. I love Brescia and am grateful to be back working with the Writing Centre! I love reading, writing, dogs, baking, and learning new things. Looking forward to chatting with you at the Writing Centre!

Haylee Purdy - Friday 1:00pm-4:00pm Online Only [English and/or French]: Bonjour! My name is Haylee and I am in my first year of teacher's college at Althouse! I am a 2022 Brescia alumna with an Honours Double Major in French for Teaching and Psychology. I am so excited to be back at the Writing Centre this year! I love to read and do sudoku puzzles, and I love murder mystery shows! I’m looking forward to meeting you at the Writing Centre! 

 

 

We help with any form of writing including resumes, cover letters, presentations and beyond! You can also book an appointment to practise speaking in French with a tutor (please book with a tutor who has “French” beside their name/availability). What we will not assist with, is any form of take-home test or exam. 

Our tutors are trained to help you with applications! Feel free to book sessions when convenient on the booking system. Also, the Writing Manager, Dr. Magdalena Kubow, would be more than happy to help you with your application. Please email Dr. Kubow to book an appointment.
